Recently I have seen a video about Rahul Gandhi, the popular Indian political leader who is considered to be the alternate to the current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has said something during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. Time and again Indian politics has been about blaming the ancestors.
As we all know that the right wingers in India are always blaming first Prime Minister of India, Mr. Nehru for the issues being faced by India in the recent times. Similarly, the opposition that could roughly be considered as Centre to centre-left always blames RSS for its absence in Indians Freedom Fight Moment.
Let me assure you in the starting itself. India is a big country and we can not achieve much if we love one person and hate the other all the time. An educated and better for all thing would be to observe and appreciate good things. So, I am not hating PM Modi or Rahul Gandhi for them being themselves. I am all praises for Mr. Modi as a PM of trouble ridden country , but I dont support all his ideas and decisions. Similarly, being a little right winger myself, I am open to the idea of Mr. Rahul Gandhi doing something better for India in the future. The thing is, India should see the progress it deserves.
Now, coming back to the topic. India is one of the biggest population and democracy in the world. Right after 1991, we became so mingled with the world that our two biggest traits are shared by two other sides of our world. We share the large population demography with China, and we share the Democratic presumptions with USA. Doesnt matter which side of the history you want to stay, you have to admit that we have very high standards to be compared on both these fronts.
Having said that , it amazes me that Indian politics is just revolving around Nehru Vs Savarkar. We are well in 2022 and we expect Indians to do something real meaningful. We cant just go back to being a country of snake charmers. For God’s sake, India deserves to be among the worlds best countries on the front of Health, Education and research. But all we get is comparisons to the past.
India has 30 something states and we have more than 22 official languages. Languages comes with a culture and a culture comes with traditions. I can pleasantly tell you that India has always followed unity in diversity and the core belief of India has always been progress. I always believe the world is indebted to India for its spiritual services to the universe and the deep rooted knowledge of family values are a gift from India. But , we also deserve to be the nation that solves the problem of world pollution. And there are problems that most of us doesnt even know about.
Being and Indian I know what we are taught in our schools, what we face in countries like USA and Europe, what values we have . I am pretty sure that we can do better. And by better I do not just mean that We will build some rockets, we will defeat our delinquent neighbor in another war and something like that. We can really do something big for the world and the potential in infinite.
I am writing this all to point out my frustration about how India is just talking about past. Mr. Nehru was a past. He did some good things, India is thankful for his decisions , move on ! Probably Savarkar was a good guy, probably not, big deal? What difference does that make ? How can India benefit from discussing these things? We believe that we have something better than others, but thats not the case all the time.
Nehru Vs Savarkar is not something that India should care much at all now. Please dont take me wrong. I am not one among liberal people who have no idea about what they are talking about. Most of them just speak for the sake of speaking. I am talking about my stuff and I know that damn very well. India is a big country with big issues. We have malnutrition, premature deaths, Naxalism, poverty, uneducation, some diseases that are preventable in West but we are far from that, we have issues of religious ideologies and communal harmony, we have a collective responsibility to make better highways and roads , we need clean energy, we have to regulate our food standards, we have issues with morality and ethics and much more. I am proud to say that India has come a long way, like seriously. India did fantastic job on the Polio eradication, we did pretty good on making our country Open Defecation Free, we have done pretty good on the economic front and we have some small startup success too. We are 100% responsible nation on many fronts. But a lot, lot more is to be done for my mother nation. I dont want my leaders to just be discussing about Nehru Vs Savarkar. We have to accept the flaws and move on. Past is past and nothing can change it much. Why not make the future that we guys are capable of?
